Win a free registration for the EAU meeting in Vienna!
MCQs in EAU journals could be your free ticket to the Vienna congress

Since 2006 members of the EU-ACME programme can earn easy CME credits by answering multiple choice questions (MCQs) that are published in all accredited articles of the EAU journals: European Urology, EU Supplements and EAU-EBU Update Series. In order to promote modern education and to increase awareness about continuous medical education on-line, which had a successful promotional campaign in 2010, the EU-ACME committee has decided to continue with this exciting initiative of giving free registrations to those who topped the MCQs quizzes. From all EU-ACME members the three participants who answered or provided the most correct answers to the quizzes that appeared in European Urology, EU Supplements and EAU-EBU Update Series correctly, will be awarded with free registration for the 26th Annual EAU Congress in Vienna (March 18 to 22, 2011) Only answers to multiple choice questions in the above-mentioned publications published from 1 June 2010 until 31 December 2010 will be considered. Members of the EAU Board meeting welcomed the idea during their meeting in Barcelona, and agreed that a competitive approach may encourage the best and most talented to participate.
All winning members will receive an official letter in early January, and their names will be announced in the February 2011 issue of European Urology Today.
Good luck!

EAU Junior members enrolled to EU-ACME programme

During the last meeting of the EU-ACME committee meeting in Barcelona, committee members discussed the initiative of the European Board of Urology (EBU) accreditation Committee regarding the EAU Junior members. In a letter, Prof. Stefan Müller, chairman of the EBU Accreditation Committee, expressed his opinion on the successful implementation of the EU-ACME programme and the important role it has in promoting CME/CPD amongst European urologists. Although urologists-in-training are not obliged to collect credit points, Müller said it could be an excellent way to promote CME/CPD. He added that residents would also be encouraged to participate in the EAU’s activities when the EAU Junior members are included in the EU-ACME programme. Both the EU-ACME committee members and the EAU Board welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm. As of June 2010, all EAU Junior members will be enrolled to participate in the EU-ACME programme and will have access to the online CME/CPD credit system in compliance with EBU/UEMS regulations. This system will help them keep track of their educational activities, irrespective of the country they practice in or the place where they have participated in accredited CME/CPD activities ( www.eu-acme.org).

Credit Registry Report 2010 - Check your collected credit points!

More then 14,000 urologists from Europe and beyond have already joined the EU-ACME programme. However only 45% actively collect CME/CPD credit points.
Members of the EU-ACME programme are collecting the credit points in compliance with the EBU/UEMS regulations. The CME/CPD credit management system recommends obtaining a minimum of 300 credit points in five years – 250 CME credits and 50 CPD credits.
The EU-ACME programme gives online access to the accounts allowing its members to collect and check the listed attended events at any time. Some members have already taken advantage of our online system and have sent to the EU-ACME office copies of documented proof of participation in an accredited event. The EU-ACME office collects and registers participation in accredited events in 2010 until 15 January 2011.
Please send copies of documents, e.g. the certificate of attendance – if you’re not registered through your EU-ACME card at the time of the meeting – written articles, text or copies of lectures delivered, etc. by e-mail, fax or regular post to us so we can update your account.
Also check your online account by logging in at
www.eu-acme.org and find out if all accredited activities you have attended are listed under your name. Make sure your personal data are correct, so that the EU-ACME office can send your Credit Registry Report 2009 to the correct address!

European CME Credits recognised by the AMA

All EAU Courses and Meetings are accredited by the European Board of Urology in compliance with the UEMS/EACCME regulations. The EBU works according to the quality standards of the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) - the institution of the European Union of Medical specialists (UEMS), www.uems.net.
All CME activities approved by the EBU/EACCME are valid for recognition by the American Medical Association towards the Physician’s Recognition Award (PRA).

EBU & UEMS/ EACCME Cooperation Agreement - European Endorsement

In January 2000 the UEMS se up the European Accreditation Council for CME (EACCME), with the goal to facilitate the recognition of CME credits awarded to doctors attending events outside of their home country by medical authorities within their home state. The EACCME is to be considered an administrative clearing-house. The EACCME does not have the facilities to evaluate or accredit conferences itself; it only considers events having already received accreditation from an accrediting body such as the EBU. It provides standards for accreditation to which the EBU guidelines comply. In 2008 the EBU and the EACCME agreed to singe cooperation agreement to enhance the harmonization of the European CME credit system for the benefit of all European urologists.

As of January 2009 all CME activities accredited by EBU are automatically submitted for European endorsement to the EACCME.

The EACCME endorsement is advantageous when delegates are expected from multiple countries wishing to collect valid European CME credits. Prior to granting European CME credits the EACCME requests the appropriate national authority where the event takes place to evaluate the quality of the event.  Once such evaluation is performed and consequently the event is approved by the competent national authority, the event is granted European CME credits valid in all European countries participating in the EACCME.

EBU CME credits recognition in USA

The conversion of EBU CME Credits to AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits will be generalized to all events being awarded the European Accreditation, and the related process will be facilitated. The American Medical Association (AMA) has an agreement of mutual recognition of CME credits with the UEMS. Under the terms of this agreement, the AMA will convert CME credit certified by the EACCME to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Physicians (MDs, DOs or equivalent international degree) may have their EACCME credit converted to AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ by applying to the AMA (www.ama-assn.org).

EBU & UEMS/ EACCME Cooperation Agreement : Changes as of January 2009
The EBU has agreed to sign the cooperation agreement with the UEMS-EACCME. The main goal of this initiative is to enhance the harmonization of the European CME credit system for the benefit of all European urologists. Therefore as of 1st January 2009 the current accreditation procedure will be adjusted to meet above mentioned requirements.

European endorsement. After approval by EBU the application will be automatically submitted for European endorsement to the EACCME. This additional step is needed to ensure the recognition in home country of the CME credits awarded by EBU.
The UEMS will inform the applicant within six weeks following the request.
A direct link to National Accreditation Authorities: As soon as it is received in its office, EBU transmits the application forms to UEMS/ EACCME for submission to the relevant National Accreditation Authority in order to obtain their recognition of the European Accreditation.
The new Accreditation Certificate, delivered by EBU, will bear the UEMS logo.
The conversion of EBU CME Credits to AMA PRA Category 1 CME Credits will be generalized to all events being awarded the European Accreditation, and the related process will be facilitated. The American Medical Association (AMA) has an agreement of mutual recognition of CME credits with the UEMS. National Urological Associations which joined the EU-ACME programme will not be charged with the administration fee.

Accreditation fees, calculated prorata the expected number of participants (on the basis of €  1  per participant), are charged to applicants whose event has been accredited by EBU and submitted to the UEMS clearing house system (EACCME) for European endorsement.

The EACCME applies the following fees for European accreditation:
